It's been a few months since we sent the last newsletter from Mogul HQ, and a lot has happened in that time!

We've undertaken and completed a lot of exciting projects, we've more than doubled the size of our offices, and we've added a new staff member.

The Mogul display at the Unison Small Business Expo was a great success and we thank everybody who came to visit us!

New Projects Launched

Last month we launched the new website for Iona College, a girls' school in Havelock North. The new site incorporates Flash videos and it's built on Wordpress, so the school can publish their latest news quickly and easily. We helped launch Rod Drury's Accelerate 2010 business event, a day of interactive workshop discussions for high-tech entrepreneurs and managers covering strategy, marketing and funding. This exciting event is taking place on February 17 at Black Barn, Havelock North and is part of Rod's plan to expose other business owners to the benefits of the Bay. We have also given the Rockmybaby™ website a massive facelift and added multi-region functionality so that the business can be licenced to independent regional managers. Rockmybaby™ is already experiencing considerable interest as a result of the new features. “With our expansion into the Australian market and globally, we needed a major revamp so that licensees could manage the website and the online booking system themselves. We've just launched Office Interiors which is also built on Wordpress. Office Interiors sell an extensive range of office furniture and offer a number of services from design and layout planning, repairs, hire & lease right through to complete project management services for interior fitout or refurbishment projects. Tuckbox Street Style Kids Clothing is a new street style clothing range for 4-12 year olds which is designed and made in New Zealand. We've created a single page site that helps Tuckbox in their aim to give "the younger dudes and fashionistas out there some real 'street cred' in a fresh, kid-friendly way". This month we expanded our reach into sub-Saharan Africa with Think, a commercial aviation training and consultancy firm based in Kenya. The site is based on the MODx CMS allowing total content management for the end user. Think is a great example of the global nature of the work we do. Welcome Bren

Bren joined the team at Mogul two months ago and has quickly become someone that we rely on to help us tackle the more technical aspects of projects. Many of you will already have met him from when you visit us at the office.  Bren has come from a support & software development role and he shares with us an absolute passion for web development. 

Bren has a small village of children with his wife, Kirsty and in their "spare" time they are both Officers of the Napier Air Training Corps - a voluntary, military flavoured youth training organisation.

We are very excited to have him with us and we hope that he sticks around for a long time to come.

Many of our clients were involved in the recent HB Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Resource Development Consultants Ltd were finalists in the Online Innovation Category while Kennedy Park Top 10 Resort took out the 3R Group Sustainable Business Award. There was also a strong presence within the finalists as ATI Engineering, Grieve Diamond Jewellers, and Terraza Saffron Ltd. were all nominated in various categories.

Additions To Fruitbowl

We introduced you to the Fruitbowl website in our last newsletter, and it has taken off beyond our expectations! Fruitbowl has quickly become a hub for Hawke's Bay businesses and local leaders and the discussions have been entertaining, informative, constructive and beneficial to those that take part. The site averages about 100 visits per day and there have already been 124 articles published and 329 comments placed

Due to the popularity of the site we have added a new feature - the Marketplace. The Marketplace is a virtual noticeboard for advertisements, requests, open staff positions and anything else you want to tell people about! It's a great place to get the name of your business known and to meet like-minded businesspeople.

The popularity of Fruitbowl has led many people to ask how they can get involved in the project. It's easy!

• First of all, you can become a member to write articles on the site;
• You can list your organisation in the directory;
• And you can sponsor the Fruitbowl site by becoming a 'Friend of Fruitbowl' (places are limited).

Finally...

Many of our clients use the Wordpress platform for their websites, and for good reason - WordPress has recently been awarded the Overall Best Open Source Content Management System Award in the 2009 Open Source CMS Awards (another CMS we use, MODx, was runner-up).

WordPress has recently released an update - as always we encourage our clients running Wordpress-based sites to update their version as soon as possible. Newer versions are more secure, more user-friendly, and have better features. If you need help doing this we can do it for you. Just let us know.
